Towards Abstraction

I enjoy exploring new ways to create images, and recently I have been focusing on light, trying to express how I feel when looking intently at a place or subject. Aiming to go beyond a purely representational approach, I seek to capture a more hidden, emotional aspect of what that time and place feel like. Through this process, I am beginning to develop recurring themes in my work: returning to the same subjects, letting the light and atmosphere guide my response, and creating a narrative around them. While this work is deeply personal, I hope these images connect with viewers on a deeper level.

An abstract fine art photograph from Redgrave and Lopham Fen, Suffolk, featuring distorted reflections of reeds in water. Slow shutter speed creates a kinetic pattern of wavy green, gold, and cream vertical light trails.

A dramatic, low-key fine art photograph of dark, shimmering sea ripples at Porthgain Harbour, Pembrokeshire, with cool blue light highlighting the intricate water textures against deep shadows.

An abstract fine art study of light and moisture: shimmering blue bokeh and glittering dew-covered silk threads of a spider web, creating a cosmic, nebula-like effect.

A dramatic, macro fine art photograph of dark, shimmering Grey Seal fur on the Norfolk coast, featuring cool blue tones and rhythmic texture highlighted by pale, fine white whiskers and specks of golden sand.

A high-contrast black and white ICM photograph using a slow shutter speed to capture a blurred gull flying low over breaking waves on the Norfolk coast.

A high-contrast black and white ICM photograph of a gull in flight over the Norfolk coast, using a slow shutter speed to create a fluid, painterly motion blur of wings and crashing waves.

A high-contrast black and white abstract photograph of a powerful breaking wave at Cley next the Sea on the Norfolk coast, using a slow shutter speed to create a soft, blurred texture of white foam against deep black water.

An abstract colour photograph of a breaking wave at Cley next the Sea, Norfolk. Slow shutter speed creates a painterly blur of deep indigo water, white sea spray, and sandy brown textures within the surf.

A minimalist abstract photograph of the sea at Cley next the Sea, Norfolk, using a slow shutter speed to create a single, glowing blue horizontal band of motion against a deep black foreground.

Experimental coastal study of the Norfolk shoreline; slow shutter speed creates a soft, misty texture of ocean waves in indigo and cool white tones against a dark beach.

Experimental motion-blur photography of meadow grass in Norfolk; a vertical abstract study featuring soft, luminous blue and green sweeps that mimic a painterly brushstroke.

A vertical abstract fine art photograph of field margin grass in Norfolk, captured with a long exposure and ND filter. Wispy, silver-white light trails of swaying grass create a painterly texture against a dark, out-of-focus green background.

Water droplets catch sunlight and creates colourful flickers of pattern and abstract forms.

Sunset colours caught reflected in a pool of water on a Norfolk beach.

A colourful sunset tinted sky reflected in the wet sand of the beach at Waxham Sands, Norfolk.

Reeds are reflected and distorted in fenland waters at Redgrave and Lopham Fen.

Light catches the fast flowing surface of a river. The river Wye in the Peak District National Park. England.

Light catches the surface of a dark patch of water.

A sparse scene of grasses and sparkling spider webs caught in the early morning light.

Shimmering water mirrored to create a mysterious and enveloping effect.

Shimmering water mirrored to create a void that is both unsettling and mysterious.

Turned on its side, the shoreline becomes textured and disorientating, with shimmering and reflected light making abstracted forms and shapes.

A harbour side ladder's reflection contorts and twists in calm waters at Porthgain in Pembrokeshire.
